Simon's Baby Pool

Simon has a little inflatable pool. It is always a tough sell getting him into it, since he is used to very warm bath water and is not appreciative of the "refreshing" aspect to a pool quite yet. He has a great time for about 5-10 minutes... then after soaking everything in sight, the invisible egg timer that controls a 15-month old's attention span goes off and he just wants to hug mommy, making her all wet too. But of course I love it.

Splashing water is so much fun!! I've got my turtles, my cup, my spatula, my squirty animals... ready for at least 5 minutes of fun. Posted by Picasa

I think I just saw a shark. Posted by Picasa

I've splashed all of the water out of my pool. Now what? Posted by Picasa

Pick me up! I'm ready to get out! Posted by Picasa

OK, I'm getting out now. Posted by Picasa

Crawling out of the pool, over the side. Here I come! Posted by Picasa

Crawling up mommy... she looks way too dry! Posted by Picasa

Maybe I want to go outside next?!? Posted by Picasa

The perfect apres-swim activity: sitting naked in mommy's lap, eating a popsicle. Posted by Picasa

I need to pull some of this plastic off so I can get more popsicle in my mouth. Posted by Picasa

Ouch - one of my seven teeth is sensitive to cold... I just can't figure out which one!  Posted by Picasa

Satisfied. Posted by Picasa

Fun with food!

Simon is a great eater! He loves dairy - cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, ice cream... (well, he is a Brees boy after all!). He also has started taking an interest in utensils. So I bought him a little starter-utensil that he can push food around with, and occasionally even get it in his mouth. Sometimes when I'm feeding him with a spoon, he will take the spoon away from me and put it in his mouth. Then after he's eaten the food off, he will hand it back to me so I can scoop more food up with it, then he will take it back himself and finish it off. Very fun.

As Simon gets more into eating a variety of foods, I am learning why Bounty paper towels are called "the quicker picker upper," and why that is important. :) Abby is also getting fat licking food out of Simon's chair after he is gone and in the tub.

Simon is enjoying all of the summer fruits - he likes blueberries, raspberries, (blackberries - not so much!), peaches, apricots, and all kinds of melon. He still loves the classic succotash but only eats the carrots and an occasional pea. I was puttering around the kitchen the other day while he ate his vegetables, and I heard him gagging... I looked over and a smooshed up lima bean was making its way out of his pursed lips. So that means he doesn't like lima beans!! Oh well!

Eating cottage cheese with my little shovel thingy (it's not quite a fork, not quite a spoon, definitely not a spork...) Abby is quickly approaching from the right to snag a curd that's about to be flung off the tray. Posted by Picasa

I move it so fast sometimes, it's hard to capture with a camera! Posted by Picasa

I can also direct music with it if I want to. Posted by Picasa

Eating with my fingers is so much easier! Posted by Picasa

Simon's first art. We think he was painting a peacock. Can you see the little tiny legs at the bottom? And the tail going off to the right? He is brilliant. Posted by Picasa

Update since March

Some of you have pointed out that we have not been very good about posting pictures to the blog recently. We also haven't been really good about taking pictures! So we promise to keep the camera out more to capture Simon's life for all of you who can't be here with us to see it first hand.

We have also had requests for pictures of Simon walking. I would love to post some, but I think getting a picture of Simon walking must be like getting a picture of a Bengal tiger. It's just an elusive moment, and as soon as you pull out the camera, it's over. As he gets older and more consistent in his walking, we will take and share pictures of his upright locomotion!

Mommy, Simon, and Daddy at Simon's first Braves game. Simon got to eat funnel cake and drink lemonade... he loved it! He also got to flirt with lots of pretty girls, and tried to steal the sunglasses off the boy's head who was sitting ahead of us (those seats are so close to each other!). Posted by Picasa

Flirting with the girls in the row behind us. Posted by Picasa

The family at Easter. Posted by Picasa

Beautiful sleeping Simon, next to a closeup of Jeb's chin "waddle." Nice. Posted by Picasa

Jeb likes to nap with Simon. This is a sweet picture, even though it shows Jeb's "waddle" under his chin. But truthfully, nobody looks good at that angle... Posted by Picasa
