Family trip to the Beach
We decided to get away for a long weekend. We went to Seagrove Beach, in Florida (it's on the panhandle, at the Gulf). Simon enjoyed his first experience at the beach. It will be months before we get all of the sand out of all of our things, and I'm not sure his stroller will ever be the same again - melted popsicles are pretty tough on fabric! We celebrated Jeb's birthday at Picolo's/The Red Bar in Grayton Beach, and afterward we decided to take a little family walk on the beach. Once we got out there, we realized the evening light was just perfect for some pictures and we started snapping. They turned out pretty well! Hope you enjoy them...
Simon's Backside
... is all we see now that he knows how to walk. He will just take off, and if you run up behind him and say "I'm gonna GITCHA!" he will squeal and start laughing. But of course he won't stop moving. I don't know how babies intrinsically know what "I'm gonna gitcha" means when they have never actually been "gotten" in their little tiny lives, but I think it must be similar to the phenomenon that causes Abby to come running into the kitchen every time she hears a plastic bag crinkle, even though she never gets to eat anything that comes out of a crinkly plastic bag. Hmm... strange.
Bubbles on the Back Porch
Simon has an automatic bubble machine (what will they think of next...) that literally blows thousands of bubbles per minute. We thought it would be fun to put it outside for him while he splashed in his pool. Simon thought it was fun too! Needless to say, he learned to say "bubble" on this day.

4th of July Weekend
Lollie and Pop came to visit. It was a short visit but we did the usual - up at dawn for the Peachtree Road Race, come home, eat, nap, eat some more, then eat some ice cream to top it all off, nap again, do something 4th of July-ish, all the classics.
This was one of our hottest July 4th's in recent years. It was 85 and very muggy by around 10:00. You can see how hot poor little Simon was during the parade.
