Easter Braves Game

We went to a Braves game with Patrick, Shannon and Kim on or around Easter (I can't remember). I'm in a strange mood so I just created some dialogue for these pictures.

What are you getting to eat? Posted by Hello

Mary Miltner 91st Birthday

We traveled to Lake Charles, Louisiana this April to celebrate Grandma Miltner's 91st birthday on the 11th. We enjoyed a great long weekend of seafood, seafood and more seafood. There's a restaurant near the lake called Steamboat Bills that serves up gut-busting portions of southern seafood without much fanfare. For instance, you can order 10 lbs of crawfish that come steamed in a big bag that you pour into a plastic TV tray and eat. Anyway, there's a dearth of really good restaurants in LC, so we ended up just going to Bills again and again. We also discovered Lebonese Butter Cookies at a small nick-nack shop. Ohhhhhhh. If you can get your hands on some of these, you're in for a real treat. We bought several packages to bring home but they didn't last a day. Grandma is doing great and having fun.

Swamp Park
There's a state park in the swamp SW of Lake Charles that includes a boardwalk and several observation posts. We try to go there everytime we're down as it's so unique and peaceful.

I See An Alligator
This is my stupid impression of a pointer pointing at an alligator. They never move while you're there, so you have to look pretty carefully to see them in the grass.

4012 Holly Hill Road
The house my grandmother has lived in almost (if not) 60 years. Mom remembers when the trees in the front yard were waist high to her as a child. Amazing.

Beer Hags
I thought we were just staging this shot until Grandma actually took a swig of beer. This and the next few pictures are at Steamboat Bills, a great low-down seafood restaurant in Lake Charles.

Slap Ya Mama Hot Sauce
The hot sauce said to "slap ya mama", so we decided to be cheesy and snap this picture. You can see the 10lb bag of crawfish in the plastic bowl in front of mom. Ummmmm. So good you should really wear a bib.

20 Lbs of Crawfish Goin' Down
Apparently there's a science to eating 10 lbs of crawfish. You can see the division between eaten and waiting to be eaten. There's also a science to getting the meat out of the tail cleanly. Something about shoving the tail into the body with a 1/2 twist of the tail. That sounds... well... I'll just stop here.

Sucking Crawfish Heads
I thought sucking the heads of crawfish was just a cheesy slogan the put on t-shirts in the French Quarter (you know why). But, according to Mom, who's been eating crawfish since she was a kid, the spicy jucies they cook 'em in get trapped in the head and you suck it out for the flavor. I can buy that... but I'm still not doing it.
